As part of the treatment program offered by Dr. Niedfeldt, therapeutic injections are administered for chronic ligament and tendon injuries. These injections may include prolotherapy or platelet-rich plasma therapy.

Prolotherapy is a type of therapy that involves injecting a solution of dextrose, which is essentially sugar water, into the attachment point of the tendon or ligament to the bone. This localized injection results in inflammation, which in turn enhances the supply of blood and nutrients to the affected tissue. As a result, the damaged tissue is stimulated to repair itself in weak areas. This therapy is beneficial for a wide range of musculoskeletal pain conditions, such as sports injuries, arthritis, partially torn tendons, chronic tendonitis, and ligament and cartilage injuries.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment for sports and musculoskeletal injuries is gaining popularity due to its excellent results, backed by research and experience. The procedure involves concentrating the healing elements present in our blood (found in the platelets) and injecting them directly into the affected tissue. This technique is beneficial for sports injuries, chronic ligament and tendon strains that have not responded well to other conservative treatments, and osteoarthritis.
